525,600 minutes — How do you measure, measure a year?
In 2023, Service staff and partners worked tirelessly on a variety of projects benefiting fish, wildlife and people. Culvert and dam replacement or removal has resulted in 100s of stream miles reopened or reconnected — allowing aquatic species to access waters that they have been cut off from for generations. Orphan wells are getting plugged and remediated, ensuring toxins no longer seep out into the ground and waters nearby. Communities are safeguarded from climate change impacts, jobs are created, and safe access to nature is provided.
All of these results are in-part thanks to the millions of dollars of funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These critical dollars support the National Fish Passage Program, Delaware River Basin Restoration Program, as well as refuges and communities throughout the Northeast.
We measure a year in the results of these labors of — love.
