After a remarkable ten-year journey with Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW), we bid a fond farewell to our esteemed Facilities Manager, Bob Moser. Bob and his wife Sharon are headed for warmer weather in the Sunshine State. His dedication and contributions have left an indelible mark on our organization and Hangar #1.
Hailing from Germantown, PA Bob’s journey in and love for woodworking began 35 years ago. A graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High, Bob’s career began as a framer and later a cabinet maker in Cape May County and continued in Florida as a truss manufacturer and later a cabinet maker and installer for Millennium Luxury Coaches in Florida for eleven years.
Bob relocated to Cape May County in 2014 and while seeking employment, he discovered an ad in the local paper for the museum’s Facilities Manager position. Bob’s connection with NASW was a stroke of fate as he joined the organization in this role in March 2014 and served faithfully for the next ten years.
Museum Manager Bruce Fournier expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Bob by adding; “Bob is more than a model employee, we became good friends. I don’t think he was ever late or missed a day. But more importantly, he is a great person and is passionate about NASW and our mission. You could ask him to do anything and if he was unsure how to do it, he would figure it out! For example, building a giant model of a human eyeball. Sometimes I would text or call him to check on something in the hangar and he would have already taken care of it. We certainly will miss him and wish him well.”
A highlight of Bob’s tenure was his involvement in creating new exhibits such as the Enigma Machine project (his favorite exhibit). When asked about the biggest changes he has seen in his decade spent at the museum he noted witnessing NASW’s growth in visitation as well as the introduction of many new exhibits. Though he may not realize it, he was a pivotal factor in both of these areas with his expertise and masterful craftsmanship.
Bob’s enthusiasm for his role was evident in his favorite event, AirFest. To make room for the large crowds, Bob is often seen setting up the hangar days in advance. His expertise again showed when moving massive aircraft like the F-14 Tomcat (Bob’s favorite aircraft due to its size) which weighs nearly 22 tons. Bob has the ability to put the nose of the aircraft within an inch of where it needs to be. As much as Bob loves the F-14 and Enigma machine, the true joy of his position lay in the meaningful interactions with volunteers & visitors.
Bob’s next chapter takes him back to the Sunshine State. His future plans include enjoying a working vacation in Florida, where he looks forward to the luxury of wearing shorts year-round and making memorable visits to Disney. In his own words, Bob leaves us with a nugget of wisdom: “Enjoy what you do and do it your best.” This ethos has undoubtedly shaped his time at NASW and serves as a beacon for those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
As we say goodbye to Bob Moser, we extend our deepest gratitude for his decade of dedicated service. His legacy lives on in the growth and success of NASW, and he will be sorely missed. Wishing you all the best in your new adventure, Bob!
