Are you familiar with LeRoy Homer Jr. and the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation? LeRoy Homer Jr. was the first officer of United Airlines Flight 93 which was hijacked and crashed in Shanksville, PA on 9/11/01. Today we remember LeRoy and the countless lives that were affected by the attacks that day.
You may have met representatives from the foundation at some of our special events. The LeRoy W. Homer Jr Foundation hosted a fundraiser at the museum in September of 2023 and have become good friends of the museum. Like our foundation, they too are a nonprofit organization. If you are looking to be charitable, consider supporting their mission as donations go directly to help provide scholarships to young aspiring pilots.

It’s hard to believe it has been 23 years since the tragic events of Sept 11. As we reflect on LeRoy and his own aviation journey, we can’t help but think about the 33 scholarship recipients who will forge a similar path. Over the last 20+ years, we have watched young, aspiring teenagers walk in LeRoy’s footsteps and carry out their dreams. Whether it’s becoming a certified flight instructor, a commercial airline pilot, flying for the US Military, or any other aviation related career, we are so proud of the legacy that has been created in our namesake. Thank you to all those who have supported us and helped us launch the aviation journeys of 33 young lives.
As we remember and honor those who were lost on that day, let us not forget the unity of this country on Sept 12, 2001. We need that today more than ever. May we live each day as if we have not forgotten. https://leroywhomerjr.org #neverforget #sept11 #911Unity #LeRoyHomer #aviationfamily
