Black Birders Week is about celebrating the many contributions of Black birders and scientists, highlighting the racism black people face in the outdoors, and conveying the importance of fostering inclusivity in these spaces.
One valuable Service partner, Birds of Urban Baltimore, is helping people from historically excluded neighborhoods get in touch with the natural world through the lens of bird science. Using the Masonville Cove Environmental Education Center as a homebase, the program is engaging Baltimoreans with urban bird conservation through events, bird banding demonstrations, and internships that help diversify the birding community.
