Coastal wetlands are nursery grounds for fish and shellfish; are home to myriad wildlife; and protect life, property, and infrastructure from storm surge and flooding. Sadly, our marshes are beginning to drown under accelerated sea level rise.
This fall, the Philadelphia District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, NJDEP, and The Wetlands Institute are bringing a much-needed enhancement project home to the marshes adjacent to The Wetlands Institute using clean dredged material. Our goal is to elevate the marsh platform to healthy tidal flooding levels and offset rising seas. Check out this presentation by Dr. Lenore Tedesco to learn more about this project.
