For those of you who have enjoyed my carnivorous plant videos from Belleplain State Forest: The Venus flytrap is not from New Jersey, but from North Carolina. It does grow in very similar conditions to our pine barrens wetlands. Just like our carnivorous plants, it requires full sun and acidic nutrient poor soil. It’s actually very easy to grow outdoors and can over winter if you put it in a large pot sitting in a bowl of rainwater. Your plant will die back to the roots so do not be surprised if it turns black once the temperatures drop.
