Happy 13th Birthday, Leela! 🥳
Leela is a siamang, the largest species of gibbon. They are endemic to parts of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Gibbons are considered “lesser apes” due to their smaller size compared to the Great Apes. Leela and her mate, Merlin, arrived at the zoo back in 2019. They always draw a crowd with their acrobatics and loud singing! Leela is a very independent lady and her favorite activity is sunbathing!
