Happy Artist Day! 🎨🎉
Did you know that we have quite a few animal artists at the zoo? Many of the animals are trained to paint as a form of enrichment. They use non-toxic paint or food dye and use brushes, paws, and even tongues! For some animals, keepers use paint as a way to desensitize them for husbandry procedures, like hoof trims or applying ointment to wounds. Regis, the kangaroo, paints his hands. He enjoys the social interaction with his keeper! All of our animal art is sold at Cape May County Zoo AAZK Chapter to help purchase enrichment items for the animals!
