Happy Ostrich Day!

Feb 12, 2025 | Cape May County Zoo

Happy Ostrich Day! 🎉

There are two species of ostrich and they are the largest of all birds. Even though they are flightless, they can run at speeds around 40 mph! Ostriches are sexually dichromatic, which means males and females have different coloration. Females like Ophelia (left) are grayish-brown, while males like Hollywood (right) have black body feathers.

Did the ostriches see their shadows today? The answer is no, so if you believe an ostrich, we’ll be seeing spring weather soon!
