Happy World Croc Day!! 🎉🐊

Meet the Morelet’s crocodile! This species is endemic to eastern Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. They are a freshwater species and adults average around 9-10 feet in length. Morelet’s were hunted to near extinction in the 40s and 50s due to their valuable hide. The Mexican Wildlife Protection Act made hunting them illegal and their population is now stable. Make sure to stop by the zoo to see our juvenile Morelet’s croc, who is a rescue who is staying with us temporarily until he can be transported to Croc Encounters in Florida.
