There are three species of zebra: Plains, Mountain, and Grevy’s. At the zoo, you’ll find a herd of a subspecies of Plains zebra called Grant’s. All species and subspecies are endemic to Africa and sport the characteristic black and white stripes. This coloration is more than just for looks; scientists have found that the pattern protects them from biting insects!
