Hellbender! A song by the Fish & Wildlife Band

Jun 28, 2024 | Cape May National Wildlife Refuge

What’s that? A new FWS song called “Hellbender!” just dropped? Hell yeah!

“Hellbender!”, the brand new song by the Fish & Wildlife Band, is a surf rock tribute to North America’s largest and grooviest aquatic salamander, the Eastern Hellbender. Found in cold streams and rivers across 15 states, this gentle giant has many nicknames: devil dog, ground puppy, mud cat, Allegheny alligator, and ol’ lasagna sides.

Whatever you call it, this endangered salamander faces many threats and needs our help! That’s why we’re working with conservation partners, state and federal agencies, and Tribes to protect and ensure healthy habitats for threatened aquatic species like the hellbender. This song by the Fish & Wildlife Band was donated to the USFWS and is intended to raise awareness about hellbenders, crayfish, darters, freshwater mussels, and our other aquatic species and habitats of concern. Listen, share and enjoy!
