In anticipation of New Jersey Wine Week, November 13-19, we’re sharing tidbits about New Jersey wine.
In 1758, Great Britain’s Royal Society offered a cash prize of £100 to any colonist who could create a wine that had the same quality as wine from France. The story goes that the challenge went unmet until the society raised the prize to £200. Two farmers, William Alexander and Edward Antill, separately produced quality wines and earned their prizes. Today, the Garden State’s vintners strive to keep their legacy for excellence alive. Tell us in the comments: what’s your favorite New Jersey wine?
