Jim and I would like to express our deep gratitude for all your memories, photos, comments and reactions to our post of Leah’s passing. It really does mean so much to us to know that each alpaca has enriched the lives of not only us, but so many of our visitors as well. You all help to pay tribute to Leah and help us in our sadness as well.
I have been thinking about how often we will be faced with members of our herd passing on in the next few years. Lightning and Princess Leia are both 17 years old, Annabel and Oliver are 16. Tanzy will be 16 on the 31st, Sebastian and Marcel are soon to be 15. We have five alpacas who turned 11 years old this year, and they are the youngest. Alpacas can live to be 20 years old (or a bit beyond, if they are lucky!) Because of their long lifespan, Jim and I made the decision to not continue breeding a long time ago. We feel that it’s not fair to animals to bring them into the world if you aren’t willing to see them through their lives as much as is possible.
We want to also thank you, our visitors, for your tremendous generosity in donating and purchasing in our shop. The Saturday donations, specifically, go toward hay, feed, and veterinary expenses. As you can imagine, we are facing more frequent vet visits in the coming years, but we have been so fortunate to be able to give each alpaca the best care during every stage of their lives. And that is thanks to you! ❤️
