Last night, we had the pleasure of attending a viewing of “The Lads from Swampoodle” at Cape May Stage, a community “Film-Raiser” event to benefit The Longest Yarn, Cape May County. The event was so popular that a second screening was added.
“The Lads from Swampoodle” tells the story of a group of friends, primarily Irish Catholics, who grew up in the Swampoodle section of Philadelphia in the 1950s and 1960s. They served in Vietnam and remained lifelong friends and a support group for each other after the war and throughout their lives.
Cape May Stage donated 100% of all proceeds from the screening to “The Longest Yarn” project. The Longest Yarn is a three-dimensional wool tapestry, knitted & crocheted by thousands of volunteers worldwide. It measures 80 meters (265 feet) and represents the 80 years since D-Day and the 80 days it took for the Allies to liberate Paris.
The Longest Yarn Exhibit will be coming to Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum from Normandy, France in 2025.
