Hey you! Step away from the rake and leave those leaves!

After the Fall leaves have, well, fallen, it’s easy to think of them as a nuisance. But the truth is, fallen leaves are an excellent habitat for so many little critters! Insects use leaf litter to hide, shelter from weather, or lay their eggs. These invertebrates feed some of our most beloved bird species. Leaves also provide a place for luna moth larvae, turtles, and salamanders! Plus, nothing beats that satisfying crunch when you step on them. :)

If you’re feeling doubtful, don’t worry – you’re not lazy; you’re a conservationist!
