LOOK! A Grumman FM-2 Wildcat will be at the 25th Annual AIRFEST at NASW September 3-6, 2021
The Wildcat was an American carrier-based fighter built by Grumman that entered service in 1940 with the U.S. Navy and British Royal Navy. In the Pacific, it was the only fighter available early in WWII, and it achieved a 6:1 kill ratio in the first year of the war. Lessons learned from the Wildcat led to the development of the Grumman Hellcat (on display at NASW) also known as the “ACE Maker.” Wildcats built under license by GM were designated FM-2 as distinction from the Grumman produced F4F. British test pilot Eric Brown assessed the Wildcat by stating, “This fighter was one of the finest shipboard aircraft ever created.”
