Meet Bart and Maurry

May 14, 2024 | Cape May National Wildlife Refuge

Meet Bart and Maurry. Bart, the bald eagle, was shot and injured, necessitating his stay at a bird rehabilitation center. Following his time there, Bart was moved to Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge and into the care of wildlife biologist Maurry Mills, where Bart was an ambassador for conservation and birds of prey.

Caring for Bart represented just one aspect of Maurry’s 50-year career with the Service. His 39 years (and counting!) at Moosehorn NWR included writing forest fire management plans, doing GIS mapping of forest habitat, and mentoring interns and technicians who later went on to join the Service. We are grateful for Maurry’s service and passion for conservation 50 years into his tenure with the USFWS.
