NEW AT THE ZOO!

NEW AT THE ZOO! 🎉

Not one, but TWO axolotls have taken up residence in the Reptile House!! Axolotls are a critically endangered species, with the only wild population residing in Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco of Mexico. The majority of axolotls are found in zoos, research facilities, and the pet trade.

Both axolotls at the zoo are leucistic color morphs. Mushy is the pinker of the two individuals. She comes across as having a laid-back, quiet personality. Luno has some black pigmentation on his gills. He is a bit more active than Mushy and very food-motivated! We’re still in the process of upgrading their habitat, but they will be on exhibit daily, so stop by to check them out!
