Parke’s Place – This week NJ Audubon Stewardship Project Director & Fight’n Femelschlager John Parke photographed a Broad-wing Hawk catch a garter snake in his yard. According to Cornell, “Broad-winged Hawks breed in deciduous or mixed forests throughout the eastern United States and southern Canada. They watch for food from perches on tree limbs as well as places near forest edges. When they spot prey, they swoop down to snatch it from the forest floor.” When gardening for wildlife don’t be surprised if the species you are trying to attract also becomes a prey item for another species! Predator prey relationships are all part of the natural world! What’s in your yard? We want to know!
