New Jersey Audubon recognized individuals and an organization during its 76th Annual Cape May Fall Festival.
The Richard Kane Conservation Award was given to Hudson Farm which operates as a year-round outdoor experience for its members as one of most attractive outdoorsmen’s layouts in the country. Its 4,000+ acres of preserved forestland in Sussex County benefits various declining wildlife species, including American Black Duck, Golden-winged Warbler, American Kestrel, and Ruffed Grouse.
The Pat Kane Education Award was given to Dr. Radhika Iyengar, Ph.D., Director of Education, Center for Sustainable Development, The Earth Institute, at Columbia University for her work on implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals to supplement climate change education in New Jersey, her work developing student leaders in her own community of Millburn, New Jersey, and for empowering student voice in education for sustainability and climate change.
New Jersey Audubon also gave a Special Recognition Award to Kip Bateman, retired New Jersey Legislator who was instrumental in creating a permanent fund for the state’s open space, farmland, and historic preservation program. His leadership in land preservation and conservation working shoulder to shoulder in a bipartisan way with partners in the Senate has earned him the respect of both his Republican and Democratic colleagues in the legislature.
