Coastal Conservation Research Program intern Oliver Puckett is a student at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas pursuing a degree in Marine Biology. As a Coastal Conservation Research Program intern in the coastal bird cohort, he is studying black-crowned night heron nesting colonies at several of the marsh islands around The Wetlands Institute. His project seeks to monitor the effects of researcher disturbance on key nesting sites by comparing interactions between the night herons and other bird species. The results of his study will help to determine best practices for night heron research in the future as we learn more about these intriguing birds. Oliver’s favorite part of working at The Wetlands Institute is all of the amazing opportunities to get involved with nature in so many different ways, and being able to work with other students and staff who share his passion for wildlife!
