Seven year stride!
Since efforts began in 2017, restorations projects have been underway to restore clean water and habitats to Onondaga Lake in New York contaminated by mercury and other hazardous substances. The projects focused on repairing wetlands, floodplains, and grassland habitats, totaling 2,228 acres conserved for wildlife and recreation. Outreach opportunities and fostering stewardship with local students and the public have contributed to creating positive change within the environment and throughout the community.
The Natural Resource Damage Assessment Restoration Program alongside the Onondaga Nation, Department of Interior, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Honeywell International Inc, and Onondaga County are working together to ensure the protection and co-stewardship of this habit for future generations. https://ow.ly/AL7P50QZOQE
