Shipwrecks off Cape May County. Many were sunk by German U-boats. Others struck the sandbars. These sandbars necessitated the construction of the Cape May Lighthouse and a life saving station. The life saving station buildings unfortunately were lost to erosion. You can learn about the station and the heroic men who manned it by visiting our Nature Center.
