The Garden State Wine Growers Association toasts to the anniversary of the Judgment of Paris! Forty-seven years ago, a blind tasting wine competition occurred between France and California to close the gap on fine wine from the state. France, at the time, was considered the foremost producer of the best wines in the world. Wines from Napa, California, were rated best in this blind tasting, outperforming French wines.
This opened the door for New Jersey to hold their own Judgment of Princeton in 2012! In order to gauge the quality and development of New Jersey wines, they were blind taste tested against French wines. At the time, New Jersey wines were considered relatively young and received little attention and recognition outside of the state. New Jersey wines fared well against wines from France, giving them credit for their dedication and hard work in winemaking in the Garden State. Now, thanks in part to a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant, we are hosting the 2nd International Wine Summit for educators, restaurant industry leaders and the international press to experience how far we have come together!
