This cozy black guillemot chick lives on Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge and is being measured by trained biologist as part of an ongoing seabird census of the island! Guillemots are great divers and can stay underwater for more than two minutes at a stretch in search of fish. It’s even been observed that these duck-sized divers have a ‘handedness’ when it comes carrying fish, preferring to carry their prey consistently on one side of their bill.
