This Friday is World Wetlands Day – a day to celebrate the beauty and importance of wetlands worldwide. About 40% of the world’s plant and animal species depend on wetlands, but they are now one of our planet’s most threatened ecosystems – disappearing three times faster than forests.

Through the Seven Mile Island Innovation Lab (SMIIL) we’ve launched several groundbreaking projects to restore our local marshes so they continue to shelter and sustain the myriad creatures that depend on them and protect our coastal communities from the dangers of flooding and storm surge.

You can learn more about the SMIL partnership with Philadelphia District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and NJDEP at https://wetlandsinstitute.org/smiil-2-2/, and you can support our efforts here: https://wetlandsinstitute.org/support/. Together, we can make a difference!
