Though it was an engineering marvel when it was first built in 1929, the Oakland Dam on the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania became obsolete over time, creating hazards for boaters and causing flooding upstream. Through funds from the National Fish Passage Program, we worked with partners in 2023 to remove the failing dam, reconnecting more than 250 miles of stream and aquatic habitats for sportfish, freshwater mussels, and other fish and wildlife.
