Who doesn’t love a Dauntless!
Today, we’re celebrating the #FirstFlight of the SBD Dauntless, marking 84 years since its maiden voyage.
During World War II, this aircraft served with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Army Air Forces.
The USAAF variant was very similar to the U.S. Navy’s SBD-3 variant, except it lacked an arrestor hook and had tires better suited for land-based missions. This variant was called the A-24 Banshee.
