Wild rice is more than a side dish – it’s habitat! With support from Service’s Chesapeake WILD Grant program, administered jointly with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Anacostia Watershed Society will restore populations of American wild rice along Maryland’s Anacostia River and track how sea-level rise affects this vital habitat.
That’s just one of the 30 projects that have been awarded a total of $8.9 million in federal funding this year through Chesapeake WILD to support wildlife and people in the six-state region.
