Wildlife Behavior and a Solar Eclipse | U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

Apr 6, 2024 | Cape May National Wildlife Refuge

🎶 TURN AROOUUUUUNNDDD!🎶

If you’re feeling a little bit lonely being outside the path of totality for the coming solar eclipse, don’t worry – you’re still in for a cool experience, minus the crowds! As sunlight begins to dim, pay close attention to your surroundings and listen for subtle changes in wildlife behavior, such as birds ceasing to chirp. Keep an eye out as shadows begin to transform and sharpen. You might witness crescent shadows cast on the ground below trees as the moon half-obscures the sun.

Of course, don’t forget to wear your protection, bright eyes!
