Would it blow your mind to hear that Monarch Butterflies in the area are being equipped with Bluetooth, solar-powered tracking tag transmitters, weighing roughly the same as a grain of rice?!! The folks at Cellular Tracking Technologies have developed a revolutionary tagging system, BlūMorpho transmitter, weighing in at about 0.06g! Working with the free Project Monarch app, citizen scientists are able to participate in the research, by scanning for local tags to help track the migration path for these amazing little creatures. Thanks to Cape May Point Science Center and Cellular Tracking Technologies for coming out last week and giving a wonderful presentation on this exciting new innovation in tracking!
