This morning, Hannah Toft and a group of her students from Cape May County Technical High School volunteered their time to help TWI Research Scientist Brian Williamson with some seasonal terrapin barrier fencing maintenance. Each year, our research staff assess the fencing along Stone Harbor Boulevard and make repairs when necessary – and with the efforts of these dedicated students, the job is much easier!
Hatchling terrapins have already started emerging, and in a few weeks adult females will begin nesting. Barrier fencing helps prevent terrapins from crossing busy roads and potentially being hit. Thanks to Hannah Toft and her students for helping make a real difference for these wonderful turtles!
